What a day! I have been asked, pretty much all day what I think to today’s mobile world changing news about Nokia pairing up with Microsoft to have Windows 7 as Nokia’s primary OS on Nokia devices, and I have to say, I’m pretty much speechless.

At first I was shocked, and horrified, but now having settled down a little after the press events, I’m starting to see the big picture, a picture many will possibly find hard to accept, and yes, I agree, its a bitter pill to swallow for sure.

I will be collecting my thoughts, and feelings on what has happened today, and sharing with you all over the coming days from Barcelona, both here on NokiaDNA, and Nokiausers.net.

I have almost finished packing for Mobile World Congress, and will be headed there first thing in the morning.

For all your Nokia loyalists, and passionate Nokia enthusiasts, don’t give up on Nokia just yet, as what they have in store for you all is pretty much going to blow the competition out of the water. Not only has today created a 3rd horse in the three horse race by bringing a completely new ecosystem into the playing field, its bringing together most, if not all of the things Nokia users have been crying out for for years. Be patient, time will prevail. Exciting times ahead.

See you soon.!

I don’t recall crying out for a Microsoft phone but if that’s what you think Nokia users have been screaming for, power to you. All I wanted from Nokia this year was a polished, “mainstream” N900. That is to say, the MeeGo N9. Their “strategy” now seems to be to use MeeGo in the same way they used Maemo, as a niche “experimentation” platform. Unacceptable. I’m sorry, I can’t get excited about this and my N8 will probably be the last Nokia I buy.

“as what they have in store for you all is pretty much going to blow the competition out of the water”

When? How long until they have a product better than the N900? Never mind the iPhone 3G, 3GS, 4, 5 & possibly even 6 if they’re talking 2012 for shipping mass WP7 devices.

What reason do people currently using Nokia phones have for choosing Nokia for their upgrade? Will all their apps work? No. Will the phone appear familiar? No. They’ve effectively looking to build on WP7′s less than 1% market share.

Look forward to reading your thoughts as they are digested mate.

That is a pretty bold statement to make, kudos to you for making it. Personally don’t see anything they can do with this partnership that will “blow the competition out of the water”.

Time will tell, problem is, Nokia don’t have time on their side.

What are your Finnish friends saying about this? Have you been able to talk with anyone working at Nokia? Morale must be pretty low at this point.

    Very well said.

I really hope that what I’m looking for form Nokia can actually see the light of day. I have been waiting a long time for them to release the N9 (running meego). I have been waiting since I first heard the specs of the N900 and imagined the follow up product. I do like their hardware designs and quality however if I am expected to use any of their phones running an OS from micro$hat I will be looking somewhere else…

I truly need the N9 (great cap. touch screen, best keyboard, best camera and most indestructible body) running meego or maemo or at the very least Ubuntu. I need a computer that is also a phone and not a phone that fails at being a computer.

Guess all I can do now is wait… if all goes down hill from here I really hope both companies bring each other crashing down.

Sorry Micky but I was never a Nokia enthousiast but a Symbian, Linux and Open Source enthousiast. There is nothing in Nokia now that will make me buy one of their devices. And killing Symbian while putting MeeGo as an experimental platform (or maybe a dead platform by them) is what won’t let me buy another phone by them…unless they change their minds. But for that to happen…Elop has to leave ASAP!
