Part 1 – Mickyfin’s Journey to New York The Empire State
Posted by MickyFin in EDITORIAL, Nokia_ConnectsAs mentioned in my previous New York post here on NokiaDNA, here is my first day experience with my journey to New York for the Shorty Awards after winning a 48 hour trip to The Empire State in a WomworldNokia competition.
My office at Helsinki Airport Gate 36
Then I boarded, and we were soon in the air. Here is a shot I grabbed of a partial snow covered Helsinki, and surrounding countryside.
During boarding my flight from Helsinki to JFK Airport I was met by the lovely @saara from Nokia who came over to me, to say hello, and to share the excitement of our New York trip.
Nine hours later we arrived at JFK, and after a little confusion, and security checks, me and Saara finally met up with @missdd who was waiting for us both in the Arrivals area.
Being my very first visit to America I was keen to get out the airport and start shooting some photos. My first photo was of nothing special to most, but it was to me.
New York Taxis.
You see, a lot of you will already know, but for those that don’t, I’m a massive film buff, and having spent a large part of my life watching film, writing reviews on film, being a film critic, it was a dream come true to now see in the flesh, the streets of New York in person after seeing them so many times on the big screen in film.
The first thing I noticed outside JFK was just how busy it was. A completely different contrast to that of Kuopio in Finland where I live.
We joined a queue for a taxi to take us to Union Square where our hotel was.
I was eager to try and find any landmarks that I would recognize along the way, and the first one was a building, well a kind of construction that was pointed out to me as being a figure in the Men In Black movie, but i didn’t manage to shoot a photo of it, but I did get a few photos en route to our hotel of the local streets. One of them can be seen below of a water tower on top of a building.
We finally reached our hotel in Union Square, and the first thing I noticed was this guy carrying a load of plastic bottles in big bags. I guess the guy is going to recycle these bottles to help put food on the table.
Then it was check in time at the hotel, and time to freshen up for an evening meal with @missdd and @saara. Stay tuned for part three later today of my New York experience.
